Did you know that the style of gutter you have on your home is extremely important? And it’s not just a matter of style preference. The weather your property withstands and the style of roof it has should both dictate what kind of gutters you install. There are multiple types of gutter styles and materials to choose from
Now that you’re familiar with the different materials available, it’s time to find what works best for your home. Storm Guard can walk you through your options or help you build your custom gutter system. Whatever you decide, we’re here to support you.
Most gutters fall into three main styles: half-round, K-style, and custom-built fascia. Common materials include vinyl, aluminum, copper, stainless steel, and galvanized steel, all of which can be installed as seamless systems or in sections. Downspouts are also key to guiding water safely away from your home.
Start with the shape. If the trough is rounded like a tube, you have half-round gutters. If the outer edge looks like crown molding with a flat back and decorative front, it’s likely K-style.
It depends on your local weather. If your area has lots of debris and leaves, K-style gutters are a practical choice, as they’re less likely to clog and easier to clean. In regions with frequent heavy rain, half-round gutters may perform better due to their smooth shape and efficient water flow.
If your area sees heavy rain or frequent snowfall, a 6-inch gutter is often the better choice. It handles higher volumes and reduces overflow risk. In milder climates, a 5-inch gutter typically works just fine.
The most common gutter sizes are 5 and 6 inches, with 4-inch options less common. Downspouts usually measure 3 or 4 inches in diameter.
